'Strategic Alliance' JV to Produce Green Electricity from Garbage, Sewage Sludge, Animal Wastes and Renewable Biomass Feedstocks
London - Waste To Energy Ltd, a privately held company based in Sudbury, England, and Kwikpower International, the Anglo-American fuel technology company, have announced that they have reached agreement to create a Joint Venture to cooperate together to build a series of gasification facilities producing "Green Electricity" from Garbage, Sewage Sludge, Animal Wastes, tires, and Renewable Biomass Feedstocks.
The new Joint Venture company, to be called "Kwikpower Waste To Energy PLC" will have exclusive worldwide rights to "Waste To Energy's" technology within key markets, with certain exclusions. The JV has a unique business model in that it plans to Build, Own and Operate (B.O.O.) facilities to provide waste disposal services, rather than sell gasifiers or license technology.
The "Waste To Energy" gasification process turns waste materials such as municipal solid waste (garbage), sewage sludge, animal wastes, or biomass into syngas, which is then used to run a diesel generator or a micro-turbine to produce electricity.
The JV envisages building a series of these facilities in Europe and the United States, and in overseas markets, where the interest is in waste disposal and generation of cleaner burning renewable alternatives to existing fossil fuel derived electricity is high.
Michael J. Ling, PE, Managing Director of Waste To Energy Ltd stated that "This Joint venture with Kwikpower provides us with a partner with an understanding and a presence within a number of key international markets which themselves form part of the clean renewable energy segment of the $500 billion world energy market. The linking of our market leading technology for modular gasifiers with Kwikpower's proprietary technologies will offer customers a seamless range of solutions for destroying waste and producing electricity with minimal toxic emissions and particulates compared with conventional fossil fuel sources.
"Our vision is to create a worldwide network of self-contained gasification facilities producing clean renewable electricity from waste; applications for which are equally compelling whether situated in Europe/USA or in developing countries." Dr James R Watkins, CEO of Kwikpower added, "The Joint Venture with Waste To Energy will allow us access to their proprietary gasification technology, which we believe is the most advanced, compact and efficient as well as the most cost effective gasification process in the marketplace.
"We believe that this 'Strategic Alliance' will allow us to produce clean renewable Electricity from waste at price levels which will allow us to compete head to head with conventional electricity generators, while simultaneously solving many of society's most pressing pollution and waste disposal problems.
"All that is required as a feedstock is a source of waste, such as household garbage, animal waste and sewage sludge, tires, or waste biomass, which is available in every country in the world, as all countries have problems with disposal of these wastes. Additionally, since we are using wastes instead of conventional fossil fuels as feedstock for producing electricity, we will achieve dramatic reductions in global greenhouse CO2 emissions. This will allow countries utilising our 'Waste to Energy' technology to meet the accords on CO2 emission reductions under the Kyoto protocol."
- About Waste To Energy Ltd:
Waste To Energy Ltd is a privately held company which is the exclusive licensee of the patents relating to the gasification of a variety of wastes into syngas. Waste to Energy has two patents granted on various aspects of this process, and continues an aggressive research and development program at its pilot plant in Sudbury, England, as well as a second research gasifier at laboratories at the University of Newcastle.
Waste to Energy has a gasification plant running sewage sludge at Anglian Water treatment facility in Wellingborough, England and a unit in Israel, processing medical and hazardous waste.
The Company also has in place contractual arrangements with British Leather Corporation for installation of gasifiers for processing of leather waste in Europe, South America and Southeast Asia.
